Nathan James now knows the value of a well-made sock. Having previously thought that men’s socks were meant to be, “utilitarian, not really men’s fashion,” James has changed his outlook. As the 29-year-old CEO of Boardroom Socks, James is part of a multi-generational family-owned and operated entity. Based out of Charlotte and established in 2010, Boardroom Socks sells over 50 styles and colors of cotton and wool dress socks for men.

The company offers a wide range of colors and patterns available in both mid-calf and over-the-calf lengths, with their new line of no-show loafer socks as the latest addition to the collection.

James detailed the process that is involved in creating a pair of socks, explaining that “One pair of socks has to go through so many pairs of hands.” When asked about the evolution of the company, James recalls his early days of spending time in his father’s warehouse in Burlington, where he and his brother would help package and ship yarn. Along with his parents Mike and Carol, Nathan James launched Boardroom Socks out of his parents’ attic just 11 years ago. It was his parents’ expertise and knowledge of yarn mixed with his own business acumen that brought the company to where it is today.

As Boardroom Socks grows, they remain committed to supporting small businesses and local industries. From sourcing Boardroom’s packaging materials and supplies from small towns to keeping manufacturing right here in North Carolina, James’ vow to keeping quality high and production American-made has never waned.
